The 180 rule states that, when filming different angles of a scene, all angles should be within 180 degrees of each other. In practice, this means that every clip of each subject should frame them on the same side of the screen to prevent confusion. I started this project, by picking out only the clips that featured White Shirt on the left and Black Shirt on the right. This project was also fun because I challenged myself to use sound effects to edit the video in a sitcom style. Overall the most difficult part was again making the video and sounds all work in exactly 30 seconds, but I think it is good practice for making ads and other real world applications of video design. The fluid momentum assignment was helpful in keeping the pace of the project pushing.

In this project, I had to think a lot about syncing up different clips to create the appearance of different angles of the same cut. I liked the practice of not staying too long on one angle to keep the flow of the film moving forwards. I also figured out how you can match up sounds in order to sync different clips of the same action together. For example, a zoomed in clip of a door closing could be synced up by matching where the sound of the door closing occurs. It was tough to make this video fit into 20 seconds because the timing on the clips was very important and not super scalable. However, figuring out a general progression of the video wasn't too hard.

While working with videos, as the editor I have to be more conscious as to where to cut clips. I need to make sure the most important part of the footage is included without staying on one clip for so long that it gets boring to watch. I made use of playback speed adjustments to get better control over my clips. Overall, it wasn't hard to create this video. Finding clips was pretty easy and working with them in the timeline of Premiere Pro was not too hard. The most difficult part was finding a logical progression/arrangement of clips. I think working with clips in Premiere Pro is pretty easy and intuitive, and I like how you can easily adjust the length, size, speed, etc. of clips non-destructively.

I found the most difficult part of Premiere Pro to be working with the text and other elements within the frame of the video. Coming from Illustrator, Premiere lacks a lot of the functionality that I am used to. I found editing and arranging clips on the timeline to be pretty straightforward. Overall, I like the program and how it makes it easy to combine and adjust audio and video.
3/28/2024 0 Comments Quarter 3 ReflectionOver the course of the third quarter, I became a lot more comfortable working with vector graphics. The layers in illustrator work more like groups in Photoshop do; once I understood that, I could keep much better track of all my paths/shapes. I also gained experience working without images. I often rely heavily on raster graphics from the internet (that I might not have the license to use), but working in illustrator helped me practice making all my own graphics. I also liked working with the pen tool so much this quarter because I feel very good at tracing images now. For example, I traced all four Incredibles from the movie poster pretty accurately in about a half hour. I think as I get more into modern logo design and designing for printing, these skills will come in even more handy. On top of illustrator, I learned how to combine Photoshop and 3DS max to make skins for models. All of these tools are related as both Illustrator and 3DS operate with vertices, and Photoshop can be used to make realistic raster graphics to supplement the high quality simple graphics you create in the former two programs.
